The Black Swan, Henley 25/05/2012

Another regular restaurant is The Black Swan in Henley-in-Arden only a couple of minutes away from my house. My & my dad went this night for a quick cheap meal as there meals are massive but are at a very reasonable price. We  know the menu of by heart now & I decided to go for one of their sharing starters as a main.

Its supposed to be for two people to share as starter but as it has all my favourites on it I thought it would be a perfect main course.
Potato Wedges
Chicken Skewers
Garlic Bread
Breaded Mushrooms
Breaded Brie
Salad
Sour Cream & BBQ Sauce

This is yummy! Everything goes so well together and the food is always really hot and you get so much on the plate for only £6.95 which is amazing! The breaded brie is my favourite as I love brie but all of it is gorgeous! I couldn't even manage finish it all but I would recommend this restaurant to anyone, the service is always fantastic with friendly staff who always come over to chat, amazing cheap food thats brilliant value for money, which is why we eat here on a regular basis!

However I wasn't too fall for a desert! I went for;
The Chocolate Fudge Cake with Vanilla Ice Cream
I decided to have it cold not hot as I prefer cake cold, this was amazing desert and was massive, dad had to help me out! It was moist as sponge can usually be quite dry but this wasn't at all and went really well with the vanilla ice cream!

Definitely a 10/10 meal for not only the food but the whole experience you get at The Black Swan!

Ed's Easy Diner, Selfridges, Birmingham 22/05/2012

Me, Sam & Jayne were in Birmingham shopping & decided to go for lunch, we took ages deciding where to eat but eventually went to Ed's Easy Diner in Selfridges as none of us had been before, there is usually an hour or so wait for a table but luckily we managed to get in straight away. Its decorated in an all American diner way, typical red black and white booths and floor. They do a massive menu with lots of choice such as, hamburgers, chicken burgers, hot dogs and combo plates. They do these amazing milkshakes as well with so many different flavours; Coffee, Butterscotch, Peanut Butter, Vanilla, Chocolate, Banana, Mint Chocolate, Oreo Cookies & they do alcoholic shakes!

We decided just to have one course & I went for;
I went for the Chicken Club Burger which was £6.75 and was served with bacon, lettuce, tomato, American cheese, mayonnaise and BBQ sauce. For my side I decided to go for Sweet Potato Fries for £3.95 instead of normal chips as I love sweet potato!
I thought this was average to be honest, the sweet potato fries were the best part! I didn't think the Chicken Burger was amazing but it was nice and incredibly filling as you got a lot of toppings which is good as burgers can be stingy sometimes on the toppings! Over all this is a nice restaurant with a good atmosphere and the food isn't cheap but its good for a lunch time whilst shopping!

The Bell, Alderminster 17/05/2012

Me, Jayne & our friend Emma decided to go to The Bell in Alderminster for lunch as Jaynes friend works there as a chef and he always treats us to amazing food every time we go! This time he told Jayne not to eat before we came because he had a massive surprise lunch for us! Little did we know it was a 4 course amazing lunch!

Firstly we sat down, ordered drinks and we were told we didn't need menus yet so we were anticipating what was coming...

This was the starter they bought out!!
The picture doesn't do this justice for how big it was, it was enough for 10 to share let alone 3! It had every starter they have on the menu on it;

White & Brown Bread
Garlic Bread
Chicken Pakora With Curried Chick Pea Samosa
with a Lemon Courgette & Carrot Salad & a Mango Glaze
Smoked Salmon Parcel Filled With Cornish Crab, King Prawn & Salmon Mousse
King Prawn, Baby Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Salad
Fresh Local Asparagus Wrapped in Serrano Ham
Farmhouse Pate Set in a Port Jelly
Stuffed Portobello Mushroom
Tomato & Mozzarella with Basil
Burrito
Confit Duck Spring Roll
Ham Hock Confit
Chicken Tikka

Sooo many different foods on one plate & we didn't even know where to start! The white & brown bread together were gorgeous, it was such a different twist on just normal bread. The chicken pakora was probably my least favourite but even so it was lovely! The smoked salmon parcel was amazing & I have had that as a starter before, it is a perfect mix of smoked salmon with crab & king prawn and the mousse worked perfectly with it! The king prawn, baby mozzarella pearls and pesto salad was definitely one of my favourites as well, it was gorgeous! The prawns were cooked perfectly and complimented so well with the mozzarella and the pesto, over all an amazing salad! Everything on the plate was to die for but it was SO filling we needed a 10 minute break before even deciding our mains.

After our massive starter we were given sorbet to cleanse our pallet. It was raspberry & mango sorbet & was delicious!

After our sorbet we looked at the menu and I decided on;
Sale & Pepper-Crusted Gressingham Duck Breast
served with a sweet potato fondant, wilted creamed kale and pancetta, butternut squash puree and maple syrup sauce at
£15.95

This was AMAZING! I love duck and this was cooked perfectly with the crust on the outside crispy enough to work well with the succulent duck. The wilted creamed kale and pancetta was amazing and complimented incredibly well with the duck and gave it that extra taste of saltiness but wasn't too overpowering, I love creamed vegetables and this was perfect with the already amazing duck & to top it off spectacularly the butternut squash puree & maple syrup sauce was so nice as butternut squash is one of my favourites I enjoyed this throughly! This was one of the best main courses I have ever had & it isn't cheap for £15.95 but it was worth every penny!!

We were told not to order a desert as well as Kirk had a surprise for us! Little did we know this surprise was as big as the starter! I was already so full but it looked amazing I couldn't resist!

It was profiteroles but covered with strawberry, raspberry and chocolate sauce with white & milk chocolate flakes. This desert was AMAZING! The profiteroles were made perfectly and worked so well with the strawberry sauce and was a nice change to chocolate as profiteroles usually are. This was an amazing desert & even better as it was free!

This whole meal was amazing & I couldn't have asked for a better lunch even though I had to go rolling out of the pub I was that full!

The Boot, Studley 16/05/2012

The Boot in Studley is another favourite of mine .. me & my mum decided to stop by after a shopping trip. It wasn't very busy in there as we got there after 3pm. We sat down, looked at the menu and decided to have starters & mains. We went for the share it option ...

Fish Mezze;
King Prawns sautéed in garlic, chilli & parsley butter, deep-fried calamari, crab & crayfish cocktail, taramasalata, crispy tortillas and tartare sauce.
This was a gorgeous starter! The King Prawns were cooked perfectly and the sauce they were in was so good, wasn't too spicy but had a good kick, the shells make it fussy and messy but they are worth it! The crispy calamari wasn't chewy at all as calamari usually can be and the batter was light and fluffy, the crab & crayfish cocktail was my favourite as it was unusual but tasted beautiful, it was the perfect consistency, definitely my favourite! The crispy tortillas were a good added touch to the fish mezze and worked well with the crab & crayfish cocktail. It wasn't cheap for £11.95 but as its to share that isn't too bad.

Marinated Chicken Supreme with Sticky Lemon Honey & Chilli Sauce, Chips & Dressed Roquette was what I had for my main course. This was GORGEOUS! The chicken was cooked perfectly and the sauce was sweet yet had a slight tangy kick to it and complimented with the chicken so well, the chips were crispy on the outside yet soft on the inside, just how chips should be. Over all this was a lovely main and very reasonable for £8.95!

The Orange Tree, 14/05/2012

Me & Jayne decided to go out for lunch as we always do! We decided to try somewhere different & went to The Orange Tree in Chadwick End as it is a sister pub to a lot of other resturants we have tried such as The Crabmill, The Baraset Barn, Mortans- all of which we visit quite a lot. So we thought we could give this one a try and compare it to the others. The Orange Tree is gorgeous inside and is decorated lovely and we managed to find a table straight away which was good considering how busy it was.

We took ages looking at the menu and took a while deciding what to have. We went for a starter to share then a main each then a desert to share.

For starter we shared...
BBQ Ribs, Honey and Soy Glazed Chicken Wings, Spring Onion, Ginger and Melon for £6.95. This was a gorgeous starter and the ribs and chicken wings were so tender and succulent The spring onion and melon gave it that extra bit of flavour which complimented really well with the spiciness of the ribs and chicken wings.
For my main course I had the Smoked Haddock and Egg Fishcake Roast Sweetcorn and Mango Salsa and Fries. These were yummy and the fishcakes were cooked perfectly and weren't dry at all as usual fishcakes can be, the chips went perfectly with it and the mango salsa complimented really well! This main was £12.95 which I think is quite expensive but it was worth it! I love fishcakes and this was definitely a brilliant main!
For pudding we shared a melt in the middle chocolate pudding with raspberry coulis and marmalade mascarpone. This was SO good, I absolutely loved it! Its quite an unusual choice for me but it was delicious! The warm chocolate pudding was so yummy with the melt in the middle chocolate sauce giving in that extra yummy chocolatyness!! It was incredibly rich and definitely was a sharing desert! The marmalade mascarpone was actually delicious and a nice surprise as I wasn't sure about it as I don't like marmalade but I loved it! It completed so well with the chocolate and helped to calm down the richness, the raspberry coulis also gave it that fruity touch that it needed. Over all this was a gorgeous desert and I would eat it again & again!

I think the Orange Tree is one of the best pubs out of the sister pubs I have tried so far and the service, decor, atmosphere and food was brilliant! Would definitely go back!

Carluccio's,Brindley Place 8/05/2012

We had been to my friends Bingo Event in Birmingham and it didn't finish till after 9 and Me, Jayne and our friend Andy were starving so as we only round the corner from Brindley Place we decided to find somewhere to eat there. As everywhere was starting to stop serving as it was almost 10 by the time we got out we found Carluccio's which is a famous chef; Antonio Carluccio restaurant chain. We went in and it was pretty busy but luckily we managed to get a table, we went straight to mains as it was getting late.

I went for ...
Saltimbocca Di Pollo which was Pan Fried Chicken Breast wrapped in Parma Ham and a little sage with Pesto Potatoes however I changed from Pesto Potatoes to Rosemary Potatoes as I'm not too keen on pesto. This was yummy! As you can see the portion wasn't massive which I actually like especially as it was late at night, the chicken was cooked perfectly and went so well with the parma ham and the potatoes. This was a gorgeous well and all the parts complimented each other so well and it wasn't dry as chicken can sometimes be.

Over all this was a gorgeous main and I would definitely return to this restaurant!

Miller & Carter 4/05/2012

Once again... Miller & Carter. Yes I went again! But this time I thought I would try something that wasn't steak as I have the same thing every single time! As always the service was brilliant and the restaurant was clean and bright.

Jayne & I went for the lunch time offer and decided on two courses at first. We both went for the chargrilled chicken wings with a BBQ sauce dip, as always!
They were as yummy as always, really hot which is how all food should be and a good enough size for a lunch time starter!
For my main course I had the Classic Handmade Burger (as burgers are my favourite!) Its a Prime West Country beef burger in a toasted bun with iceberg lettuce, mayonnaise and tomato which is served with seasoned fries and coleslaw and I chose a cheese topping. The toppings you can chose from on the burger are really good; bacon, cheese, stilton, bbq sauce, guacamole, salsa, jalapeños, flat mushroom, fried egg or onion loaf. My burger wasn't as good as expected to be honest and I was slightly disappointed which is a shame for Miller & Carter as its my favourite! But it was good and the chips were as good as usually, I would give the burger 6/10 and definitely think I will be sticking to steak!

However we decided to have two deserts and share them between us.
We went for the Chocolate Brownie which is served with warm with vanilla dairy ice cream, white chocolate and Belgian chocolate sauce. This was gorgeous! The brownie was so soft and wasn't at all dry as brownies can be, it was delicious and the sauces went perfectly well with it and made it that extra bit chocolaty! This was yummy and I could have eaten 4 of them!
We also went for the White Chocolate Box which was a shortbread topped with white chocolate mousse and raspberry coulis, with a white chocolate coating served with white chocolate sauce. This was AMAZING. I'm usually not a fan of white chocolate but this was so good, the mousse was perfectly creamy and bouncy, with the shortbread at the bottom giving it a bit of crunch and once you entered the middle of the pudding all this gorgeous sweet raspberry coulis came out ... melt in the middle! The sauce that came with it was so yummy as well and this desert was over all gorgeous! Definitely going to have that again!

New York 25/04/2012-2/05/2012

Me & my college class all had an opportunity to go to New York as part of our course to do some filming over there and obviously to do some shopping! But whilst we were over there I ate out a lot & had loads of food!

Hotel Diner Tick Tock 25/04/2012
The hotel we stayed in, The New Yorker Hotel had a 24/7 diner inside it where you could get a massive selection of food all day every day. I decided to go for breakfast one morning with a friend, Beth. Inside was very busy, as expected in New York! The waiter showed us to a table and we looked through the menu, there was a lot of choice just for breakfast which I found very good as I can never decide! The orange juice I ordered was very expensive for a half pint $4.25 is a lot for not a lot of orange juice! However that was cheap compared to the breakfast and the tip they expected!

I went  for the Grand Slam breakfasts which was: Pancakes or French Toast with Ham, Bacon, Sausage & a Fried Egg for $11.95
As you can see the portion size is massive for breakfast, the egg was cooked perfectly as were the bacon and sausage and the ham gave it a good touch and went really well with the ham. However the french toast was covered in maple syrup and therefore made it incredibly sweet which was hard to eat for breakfast and didn't mix well with the savoury items, I also hate sweet and savoury mixed together so I wasn't a fan of this and for $11.95 it wasn't exactly a cheap breakfast! Especially how at the end of the meal we left a $5 tip and the waiter demanded more & more and wouldn't let us leave until we had left almost $10 which was so rude and we were not impressed with that! Over all this was an average breakfast and definitely wasn't worth the price!

Pizza 26/04/2012
This particular night me, Shannon & Beth were all too tired to eat out so we decided to get a pizza and take it back to the room as we all shared a room together. Luckily there was a pizza place opposite our hotel so we went, there was a lot of options to choose from but we decided on pepperoni as its easy and we all like it, we got a side of garlic bread as well.
The pizza was a good prize for $15 so worked out as $5 each, pretty good deal for an 18 inch pizza! It was lovely and was cooked perfectly! I can't really go into too much detail as its pizza but it was yummy & extremely filling!

Lunch on 5th Avenue 27/04/2012
We had been filming in Central Park on this day and we decided to go shopping afterwards as we right next to Broadway and 5th Avenue. This made us veryyy hungry so we decided to stop of at a sandwich shop and grab a quick cheap lunch, as cheap as 5th Avenue can be!!
This sandwich was amazing! It was in ciabatta bread with BBQ Shredded Pork inside with lettuce. It was a massive sandwich and I could only managed one half and had to take the other half with me it was that big! It was so yummy though, the pork was cooked perfectly and was so tender and worked really well with the BBQ sauce and lettuce. It wasn't very cheap about $9 for the sandwich and a packet of crisps but it was worth it because it was so lovely! The best sandwich I have EVER had!!

China Town 27/04/2012
We decided to go to China Town for dinner as a small group. It took ages to find and wasn't in the best of areas but there was hundreds of different restaurants to chose from, we really wanted a buffet but we were in a slight rush as the last subway home was 10pm so we decided on one of the restaurants near by and ate there.
I went for the shredded pork in hoi sin sauce with noodles. What. A. Disappointment! It wasn't presented how I expected it to be and the taste was even worse, it was so rich and the noodles were over cooked and too soft! This wasn't very good at all and was definitely the worst meal I had whilst being in New York! I would give this 2/10 and everyone at the table said exactly the same, we were all very disappointed and went back to the hotel as hungry as when we left!

Steak Dinner 28/04/2012
This night we were all supposed to go to TGI's but it didn't work out as expected as the menu was very different to the English one and way more expensive. Me, Shannon & Beth didn't fancy it so we decided to go & find somewhere else to eat. I really wanted some American steak before I left so we found a little cafe in Times Square which did steak on the grill with a choice of rump, sirloin or fillet. I went for fillet as it was a lot cheaper over there as it is in England, I had a jacket potato and salad with garlic bread.
The portion size was very reasonable, wasn't too big or too small! The steak was cooked perfectly, medium rare and was so succulent and tender, the jacket potato went really well with it but could have done with more butter. the garlic bread was so yummy and crispy! The salad with it was also really yummy and I really enjoyed it with the thousand island sauce on it. Over all this was a yummy meal and the steak was beautiful!

Little Italy, Da Nico's 29/03/2012
For starters me and a couple other students shared an Antipasti Freddi which included prosciutto, provolone, sopressata, olives and roasted peppers. This is my perfect kind of starter, every bit of it was yummy and I usually hate olives but these were actually really good. My teacher who was sharing it with me was a vegetarian so it meant more of the meat for me! My favourite bit, I throughly enjoyed this starter and was the best meal I had so far in New York!
My main course was just as yummy! I chose the Pollo Valdostana which was boneless chicken stuffed with provolone, proscuitto and mozzarella with a mushroom sauce and a croquette potato. This was absolutely amazing! The chicken was cooked perfectly and went perfect with the mozzarella and mushrooms, the flower for decoration gave the meal that extra touch and this was definitely one of the best Italian meals I've ever ever eaten!

Airport Diner 30/04/2012
At the airport on the way back to England we decided to get some food as airplane food is vile! We found this really cool all American diner that served good food at a reasonable price. We decided on cheese & bacon potato skins for starter with sour cream & salsa dip. These were cooked amazingly and were sooo yummy, we ate them all so quickly! They were really hot as well which is always a good thing when it comes to food! The only thing I would say is the cheese probably could have been more melted but thats only a little preference. Over all a really good starter for $7.25.
For main course I had a steak and caramelised onion ciabatta sandwich with fries which was average to be honest, I wasn't overly impressed. The steak wasn't cooked medium rare it was like well done which meant it was chewy and tough which I hate in steak! The caramelised onions in it were yummy however and the chips were crispy yet soft on the inside.

Over all this was a yummy dinner to eat before the plane- anythings better than that food!! I definitely had some weird eating experiences whilst being in New York, some good and some awful but it was interesting to try all different types of food and I loved every minute of it!
