The Bell, Alderminster 17/05/2012

Me, Jayne & our friend Emma decided to go to The Bell in Alderminster for lunch as Jaynes friend works there as a chef and he always treats us to amazing food every time we go! This time he told Jayne not to eat before we came because he had a massive surprise lunch for us! Little did we know it was a 4 course amazing lunch!

Firstly we sat down, ordered drinks and we were told we didn't need menus yet so we were anticipating what was coming...

This was the starter they bought out!!
The picture doesn't do this justice for how big it was, it was enough for 10 to share let alone 3! It had every starter they have on the menu on it;

White & Brown Bread
Garlic Bread
Chicken Pakora With Curried Chick Pea Samosa
with a Lemon Courgette & Carrot Salad & a Mango Glaze
Smoked Salmon Parcel Filled With Cornish Crab, King Prawn & Salmon Mousse
King Prawn, Baby Mozzarella Pearls & Pesto Salad
Fresh Local Asparagus Wrapped in Serrano Ham
Farmhouse Pate Set in a Port Jelly
Stuffed Portobello Mushroom
Tomato & Mozzarella with Basil
Burrito
Confit Duck Spring Roll
Ham Hock Confit
Chicken Tikka

Sooo many different foods on one plate & we didn't even know where to start! The white & brown bread together were gorgeous, it was such a different twist on just normal bread. The chicken pakora was probably my least favourite but even so it was lovely! The smoked salmon parcel was amazing & I have had that as a starter before, it is a perfect mix of smoked salmon with crab & king prawn and the mousse worked perfectly with it! The king prawn, baby mozzarella pearls and pesto salad was definitely one of my favourites as well, it was gorgeous! The prawns were cooked perfectly and complimented so well with the mozzarella and the pesto, over all an amazing salad! Everything on the plate was to die for but it was SO filling we needed a 10 minute break before even deciding our mains.

After our massive starter we were given sorbet to cleanse our pallet. It was raspberry & mango sorbet & was delicious!

After our sorbet we looked at the menu and I decided on;
Sale & Pepper-Crusted Gressingham Duck Breast
served with a sweet potato fondant, wilted creamed kale and pancetta, butternut squash puree and maple syrup sauce at
£15.95

This was AMAZING! I love duck and this was cooked perfectly with the crust on the outside crispy enough to work well with the succulent duck. The wilted creamed kale and pancetta was amazing and complimented incredibly well with the duck and gave it that extra taste of saltiness but wasn't too overpowering, I love creamed vegetables and this was perfect with the already amazing duck & to top it off spectacularly the butternut squash puree & maple syrup sauce was so nice as butternut squash is one of my favourites I enjoyed this throughly! This was one of the best main courses I have ever had & it isn't cheap for £15.95 but it was worth every penny!!

We were told not to order a desert as well as Kirk had a surprise for us! Little did we know this surprise was as big as the starter! I was already so full but it looked amazing I couldn't resist!

It was profiteroles but covered with strawberry, raspberry and chocolate sauce with white & milk chocolate flakes. This desert was AMAZING! The profiteroles were made perfectly and worked so well with the strawberry sauce and was a nice change to chocolate as profiteroles usually are. This was an amazing desert & even better as it was free!

This whole meal was amazing & I couldn't have asked for a better lunch even though I had to go rolling out of the pub I was that full!
