The Kings Arms, Knowle, 30/06/15

I was very much looking forward to this one and I was lucky enough to get invited to go and try their food for their launch opening night - very exciting! The Kings Arms  in Knowle has recently be re-done and their menu refreshed and by what I saw online I was very excited to try the food. Its an unique country pub that serves gastro-style food. Its in a lovely location and has a huge garden, which was ideal as this particular day was so hot!

The Cosy Club, Birmingham 28/06/15

After going to the launch night of The Cosy Club in Birmingham, I was looking forward to going back properly and having a meal. This was the perfect occasion, my best friends birthday: Sam & Jayne's birthdays are the day after each other so they decided to have a joint birthday party on the Saturday 28th June.

Fukouka, Shirley, 21/06/15

Back here again, Its definitely become my new favourite place and even more so as its 5 minutes down the road from me AND they do takeaway! This time I took my dad for Fathers Day, as he lived in Japan for two years, Japanese is his favourite but he is yet to find an authentic restaurant in the West Midlands, I assured him this one was delicious and I was apprehensive for him to try it!

Homemade Fish & Chips, 20/06/15

Another healthy recipe for you guys. We all know how tempting it is to get Fish & Chips Takeaway after work on a Friday, its quick convenient and yummy. But this recipe is my take on fish and chips - done the healthy way!

Bodega, Birmingham, 18/06/15

This is somewhere that has been on my list for a while so I was excited to finally try it. I met my best friend, Matt in Birmingham and we went to Bodega for a spot of dinner and drinks! Its a South American Bar and I have heard many good reviews about the food and cocktails.

The Bramley Cottage, Redditch, 16/06/15

I'm manically busy at the moment and trying to catch up with blog posts, I'm sorry I'm so behind - I will catch up this week, I hope!

This blog post is in Redditch, The Bramley Cottage which is an Ember Inn chain pub - I had never been before but was meeting a group of friends and it was gorgeous weather so we wanted somewhere with a beer garden!

Afternoon Tea, Sketch - London, 13/06/15

I love afternoon tea - and this time it was at Sketch, London. I couldn't wait as all the Instagram pictures looked amazing and the room is all pink .. what more could a girl want! Tea, cakes and a pink room = ideal! The venue is so nice, a beautiful building on the outside with a leopard crawling down the wall. It is perfect for food, drinks and entertainment - they offer normal menus as well as Afternoon Tea from £39, which is pretty reasonable. I was very excited to try the food!

En Place, Pop-Up Restaurant, Millennium Point, 11/06/15

This is a blog post I'm excited to be writing about! 6/8 Kafe in Millennium Point have come up with a genius idea - they have allowed chefs to take over their kitchen for a few nights and do 'pop-up' restaurants. I went along in June to try En Place's second event, I was gutted I missed out on the first one but I was thrilled to see what it was all about!

Fukuoka, Shirley, 09/06/15

This is a brand new restaurant opened in Shirley, right on the High Street - I was very excited about this as it's a Japanese restaurant and Sushi is my favourite! I had heard a few good things from people and seen them on Twitter and I was very excited! They still don't have a website set up as they are brand new and their card machine still isn't set up - but its worth a visit. Its next door to the Ford Garage on the High Street and its a lovely traditional looking restaurant inside, the decor is all black and red and they have normal tables and chairs but you can also sit on the floor, traditional Japanese style!

Slimming World, Spaghetti Carbonara, 08/06/15

As I'm trying to eat healthy - I love Slimming World recipes as they are still full of flavour and you don't even miss the unhealthy stuff!

This particular evening I decided to try the Spaghetti Carbonara, its so easy and only takes 20 minutes, making it the perfect after work dinner.

  • 6 lean rashers of bacon, all visible fat removed (or Quorn bacon-style pieces - see tip)
  • 4 eggs
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper
  • 4 tbsp fat free natural fromage frays
  • 2 level tbsp grated Parmesan cheese
  • Small handful of fresh chives
  • 400g dried spaghetti
Method:
  • Cook the spaghetti according to the packet instructions. Drain well and return to the saucepan.
  • Meanwhile, heat a large non-stick frying pan over a high heat.
  • Add the bacon and dry-fry for 2-3 minutes, then turn off the heat.
  • Lightly beat the eggs, season to taste and stir in the fromage frais, 1 tablespoon of Parmesan and most of the chives.
  • Add the bacon to the drained spaghetti and mix well over a low heat, then remove from the heat and stir in the egg mixture.
  • Toss thoroughly so that the eggs thicken in the residual heat, making a sauce that coats the pasta.
  • Scatter over the remaining Parmesan and chives and serve hot.

I didn't have any chives so used Spring Onions - it was delicious and filling and I really enjoyed this dinner!

Kayal, Leamington, 06/06/15

Sorry I've been a bit quiet recently, I've been crazy busy and ill for a while - but I will try and catch up on as many blog posts this month as possible! I'm kicking June off with Kayal in Leamington, somewhere I had wanted to try for months! Its a South Indian restaurant and they do so many unusual dishes. They mix meat, seafood and vegetarian dishes and the food is colourful and full of flavour - I was definitely excited and Dad's birthday was the perfect reason to go out and try it, as Indian food is his favourite!

Alfie Birds, 03/06/15

I was invited by Esh to try Alfie Birds in The Custard Factory, Digbeth - it has recently had a new chef take over and they wanted someone to go and review the food and luckily that person was me! Its a cool, funky place with a good atmosphere, they have live music on the evenings and it definitely has a student vibe to it. I had looked the menu up online before I went and was excited by all the different burgers - as burgers are my favourite!
