Arroyo Honda, Spain, 24/07/15

We went for a weeks holiday to Spain, staying in a town called Casares staying in Toms mum and her partners apartment over there. After a difficult few weeks, we were grateful of the time away and especially to celebrate Tom's birthday on 24th July. The apartment was just beautiful, over looking the sea and it had its own private pool, with the weather being over 30C everyday - I was not complaining. It was Toms birthday on the Friday and I wanted to go somewhere very special to make sure he had a good birthday. Tom's mum has mentioned this certain restaurant to us before and I couldn't wait to try it. Arroyo Honda in Casares, it is right on top of a mountain and it has beautiful views, after looking the menu up online, I was so excited to try it!

It's a gorgeous setting, perfect for a birthday and the service was faultless throughout the meal, the staff were very helpful, friendly and attentive.

It isn't the cheapest restaurant but they offer a Prix Fix menu which is is 2 courses for 14 euros or three courses for 16 euros, which is incredibly good value!

We all decided to go for starters, Toms mum went for the Prix Fix menu but me and Tom decided to go for the normal one.

Karaage Japanese Deep Fried Chicken, Marinated in Garlic & Soy Sauce Served with Wasabi Mayonaise & Sweet Teriyaki Glaze
8.50

The presentation of this was amazing, it looked so delicious on the plate and I couldn't wait to dig in. The chicken was perfectly cooked, was crispy on the outside and soft and tender inside, the marinade was delicious, sweet, tangy but had a hint of spice. The wasabi mayonnaise went perfectly well with the chicken and marinade and it the wasabi wasn't too overpowering but it complimented the meal perfectly. A very good starter, it wasn't cheap as it worked out as about £6/7 but it was worth it.

After the starter I couldn't wait to try the main course, especially after it took so long to decide!

Panko Fried Monkfish with Adobo Marinade, with Chips, Root Vegetable Salad & Citrus Mayonaise
22.50
Again, very good presentation. It looked colourful and appetising on the plate. The monkfish was tender and juicy, the panko breadcrumbs were not too heavy and the root vegetable salad was so refreshing, it was similar to a coleslaw and helped to give the monkfish some extra flavour. The citrus mayonnaise was a delicious sauce and went perfectly well with the fish and salad, I throughly enjoyed this dish. It wasn't cheap as it worked out as about £19 but it was worth every penny, delicious.

Tom had Lamb Chops, Pickled Lemon Cous Cous, Hummus with Spinach, Pine Nut & Feta

He loved this, he said it was full of flavour and it was very healthy too, which is always a bonus!

Dessert time …

Panna Cotta with Champagne Strawberries & Black Pepper Shortbread

Salted Caramel Cheesecake, Honeycomb & Caramelised Banana Ice Cream

WOW! What amazing desserts, they worked out it was Tom's birthday and bought him out a special dessert which was a lovely touch and very unexpected. The presentation of both desserts was amazing, they looked so good on the plate, almost too good to eat … almost!

The panna cotta was amazing, so gooey, wobbly and delicious. The vanilla wasn't too overpowering but it had just the right amount of flavour. The champagne strawberries were so tasty and I loved the shortbread, it was perfectly baked and all the components of this dessert went so well together and I loved every bite!

Tom LOVED his cheesecake, it was sweet, tangy but with the slightest hint of salt and the whole thing came together perfectly. A beautiful dessert and I couldn't fault them!

Over all, an amazing experience at Arroyo Honda - the service is amazing, the food is delicious in every way, the menu is exciting and the place is beautiful - the perfect setting for an amazing meal! I loved every minute of this place, if only it was a slightly closer!
