Peachy Keens, Birmingham, 29/01/15

Last week I was given the opportunity to visit Peachy Keens in Birmingham. It is a mulch-cuisine buffet. They offer Chinese, Thai, Mexican, Portuguese, Italian and Indian. With arrays of freshly prepared salads, starters, authentic main courses, live cooking and yummy desserts. There is something for everyone at Peachy Keens

The place itself is very bright and fun looking as soon as you walk in.

Buffets have become very popular over the last couple of years and as the purse strings tighten, they are brilliant value. Peachy Keens is £6.99 at lunch time Monday-Friday, £9.99 lunch time on a Saturday. Then, at the weekend it's £12.00 Monday-Thursday and £14.99 Friday & Saturday. Where else can you go and get 6 different cuisines in one place for that price?!

It was very easy to navigate around the buffet with signs explaining what each dish was and different sections for each cuisine. The service was very good, we were shown to our table quickly and ordered drinks within minutes of being there. The waiters and waitresses had big smiles on their faces and were happy to help at any time.

I started with the array of different starters from spring rolls to Pakora.

I went for a mixture of foods, Spring Rolls, Chicken Wings, Onion Bhaji, Calamari and Cripsy Seaweed and off course - Prawn Crackers!  The starters are always my favourite part of buffets and these were very good. The crispy seaweed was a favourite of mine and it was cooked very well and was perfectly salty. (I did have two plates of starters, but sssh!)

Next I went for some main courses, I did stick to Chinese & Thai mostly, I would like to go back and try their Italian and Indian selection.

What I love about buffets is, you can have all your favourite dishes on one plate - usually when you go out to eat at restaurants or get a takeaway it is too expensive to have so many dishes. I had Sweet and Sour Chicken & Fish, Thai Style Noodles, Chicken Teriyaki, Singapore Noodles & Rice. Again, all very tasty and it was nice to be able to try different flavours together. The prawns were a personal favourite - the sauce they were in had a bite but was very tasty and each component went very well together. No complaints here.

Next, I wanted to try the Live Cooking they offer - I love when buffets have this because you can see the food being prepared. You chose the ingredients suited to you and the chef cooks it right in front of you. Hot and ready to eat in minutes!

You can decide from beef, chicken or prawns, a selection of vegetables and either noodles or rice. I went for beef, chicken and prawns - why not? And had peppers, bean sprouts and mushrooms with noodles and a sweet and sour sauce. I really enjoyed this, it was my favourite part of the whole meal. It tasted very fresh and the flavours all worked together well.

The dessert selection was huge, all perfectly presented and a a joy to look at.

I went for a few mini desserts. Strawberry Cheesecake, Lemon Cheesecake, Chocolate Brownie, Chocolate Mousse and Jelly. The desserts are good, not a huge amount of flavour but they are a good way to cleanse your palette after rich food.
