The Saxon Mill, Warwick 19/08/13

Sorry guys it's been a while, been busy working and Uni! But I'm back and I've got loads of restaurants to review! First is The Saxon Mill in Warwick, me, Jayne & Sam all went for dinner as we had heard so many good reviews and none of us had ever been before so we decided to go on this particular night. We booked a table as it gets very busy even though it was a Monday night.

We arrived at around 8 and it was very busy, the waitress showed us to our table and we looked at the menu, it took a long time for a waitress to ask us if we wanted a drink which we all weren't very impressed with, also as we were looking at the menu a waitress on two different occasions bought us food that wasn't even for our table! Not impressed. After we finally got a drink we ordered our food hoping it was going to be better than the service so far..

For starter I had:
Arcancini Breaded Risotto Balls: three grain crispy risotto balls filled with mozzarella & roasted sweet red peppers served with green chilli mayonnaise
£4.95
A very well presented starter and a reasonable size portion for the price. It's not the cheapest menu at all so the starter I chose was definitely one of the cheaper starters and it was actually incredibly yummy. The risotto balls were very crispy and the filling was really nice, I would have liked a bit more mozzarella but I love cheese! The mayonnaise it came with wasn't too spicy either which was surprising as it was chill but overall I really enjoyed this starter. However, when we finished our starters, Jayne & Sam's glasses were empty and the waitress didn't even ask them if they needed more drinks or anything, it took us 10 minutes to get her attention to get some more drinks, by this point we were all pretty annoyed with this meal, even more so when we still didn't have our main courses 35 minutes later.. we waited another 5 minutes and eventually called the waitress over to ask her where they were and she said she would find out, 50 minutes later our mains were with us, not impressed!

For main course I went for:
Fish  Pie
£12.95
And unfortunately the main course fitted with the bad service, when the waitress bought us the mains over she put them down and didn't ask us if we wanted anything else or any sauces, she just ran away quickly- not impressive and my friend Sam had to actually call her over to ask for some mayonnaise! The over all presentation wasn't great either, mash is usually spread around the top of the fish pie so it covers it but this had mash in a clump on the top right in the middle of the pie and when I went to eat the mash it was so dry and tasteless, it kept breaking into little bits and it was just awful, Sam ordered the large duck salad and when it came it was tiny, there was only a few little bits of duck in the salad with hardly anything else! It wasn't very good at all and all 3 of us weren't impressed, no one came and asked us half way through either if our meal was okay so we didn't get a chance to say anything. However when the waitress came over at the end, I had left half of my meal and she asked us how everything was which is when we explained to her we weren't happy and told her why, she said she would get the manager over, mean-while the manager was already talking to a near by table as they were complaining too! This doesn't bode well. The manager came over to us and we explained how unhappy we were, he didn't exactly have the best attitude towards the situation as if he is so used to hearing it! However he did offer to give us the meal for free and offered us a free dessert, so that was slightly better!

For dessert I chose:
Italian Vanilla & Chocolate Gelato with a home baked cookie
£4.95
To be fair, the dessert was very good-the best part of the whole meal! The cookie was warm and perfectly baked, it was soft in the middle but crispy on the outside and it went very well with the ice cream. This dessert is very reasonably priced too, however it did take a while for the dessert to come to us and once we had finished the dessert and asked for bill, it took ages to get to us! Once the bill finally arrived, the meals were all on there! We were really annoyed by this point and had to ask the waitress to take them off who informed us that she was told that we were only getting the desserts for free! Again, not impressed so we told her that isn't what he told us and she went away to speak to him and came back and eventually took all the meals off, a 3 course meal for £6 each is very good but I would never go back again-very disappointing.
