Thai Cottage-Henley in Arden 26/07/2013

Another food blog entry, this time a Thai restaurant in Henley in Arden; The Thai Cottage. Jayne & Sam were off to Vegas on the Monday so it was our farewell dinner. Me & Jayne had been to this Thai before for lunch and we thought it was average but Thai food is usually better in the evening so thats why we thought we would try it again.

It's only a very small restaurant inside with tables very close to each other but it's decorated very nicely and is very pretty inside. The menu is so good as well, loads of choice and different Thai food I have never heard of before.

We decided to go for one of the set menu's they had but as it was only for 2 people (for £19.95 each) we ordered a couple of extra dishes with it so it would be enough for 3. For starter it was a mixed starter plate with:

Thai Mixed Starter
Duck pring Rolls, Prawn Rolls, Ribs & Chicken Satay
& we ordered a starter from the normal menu too:
Prawn & Pork Sesame Toast
The mixed starter was decorated and presented perfectly, it looked almost too good to eat! The second starter also had perfect presentation. Wow, the food tasted even better than it looked! The mixed starter came with loads of different sauces, chilli, hoi sin and another I wasn't too sure on but they all tasted so good! Each part of the starters were so good! The spring rolls were hot, crispy and so tasty, the ribs were tender, falling of the bone and sticky and sweet-perfect combination for ribs! The prawn rolls-yum! I love prawns so much and especially when they are in spring roll pastry, they were crunchy on the outside but the prawn was soft and hot on the inside! The chicken satay, again so good! Tasted beautiful and so well cooked. The prawn and pork sesame toasts were very different to normal prawn toasts but they were also very tasty, they were crispy on the outer layer and then soft on the inside with a nice blend of prawns and pork, it went so well with the clear sweet chilli sauce too! 10/10 starter!!

Only two dishes came with the mixed starter with some rice, noodles and stir fried vegetables so we ordered an extra dish and an extra dish. The mains that came with the set menu were:

Sirloin Steak with Penang Sauce
 Crispy Duck with Tamarind Sauce
The extra dish we ordered was:
Sweet and Sour Chicken
Stir Fried Vegetables with Oyster Sauce

As you can see, each dish was plenty big enough. They were all presented perfectly well, especially the duck and steak dishes that came within the set menu as they were on a pretty plate with flowers. They again, tasted as good as they look! The steak in penang sauce was so good! It was almost like a curry sauce but wasn't too spicy, the steak was cooked to perfection and was tender and not chewy in the slightest! Gorgeous dish and something I hadn't tried before but would most definitely have again. My favourite was the duck in tamarind sauce, I have always wanted to try tamarind sauce and it was worth the wait! It's a very mild sauce but has a very distinctive, tangy taste, almost like a hoi sin. The duck was perfectly crispy on the outside and tasted like it had panco breadcrumbs on it too, which was a nice extra taste, it had cashew nuts in it too which is always a bonus with me! The sweet and sour chicken was as you except with sweet and sour chicken to be honest, it's pretty much the same taste everywhere you go. The chicken was crispy and cooked to perfection. The stir fry vegetables again, was what you expect with stir fry vegetables!

But wow, such an amazing meal! 10/10 meal and not even that expensive, £25 a head and it was worth every penny!!
