Whetherspoons, Shirley, 10/04/15

This is a slightly unusual review as its a very basic pub/food place - but a new Whetherspoons opened in Shirley, just down the road from me and therefore I wanted to try it. Its cheap and cheerful and the food is usually pretty good and extremely good value! This one is in the new Parkgate shopping centre on Shirley High Street, its a bright and open plan place but there aren't many tables inside, its quite a small Whetherspoons compared to most of them but it was busy and had a nice atmosphere.

The service was very good throughout too, the guy behind the bar was so lovely, attentive and friendly. He served all the drinks quickly and was helpful during our visit there.

The menu has so much choice, its full of different types of foods from Pub Classics, Burgers, Pies, Salads and they offer an under 500 calorie section which has a wide variety of options on it too. This is always a good thing to see, I'm very for the healthy eating being bought into restaurants. (Saying this, I didn't have a healthy option on this visit - it was cheat day!)

Philly Cheesesteak Sandwich - Served with Chips, Onion Rings and a Cheese Dip
£9.00

Whetherspoons is a bargain, not only are the meals £6-£15 but they all come with a free drink too - whether that be alcoholic or a soft drink, this is a fantastic idea and it makes the experience even better. The food was actually very good, it was presented nicely on the plate and the portion was HUGE! For the price, they are definitely generous portions and the food was very tasty. The baguette was crusty and fresh, filled with heaps of strips of steak, topped with caramelised onions and the cheese dip was served on the side - which was SO yummy, it was runny, hot and hit a slight kick to it.  I loved it! The chips and onion rings were cooked very well, it was a very good meal and I have no complaints.

Over all, a very good experience at Whetherspoons, the service was faultless, they have a massive variety of drinks, the food was tasty and they offer a massive menu with very generous portion sizes, exceptional value for money and I would return for a cheap and cheerful meal.
