Giggling Squid, Stratford Upon Avon 01/04/14

Today's blog post is a lovely little Thai place in Stratford-Upon-Avon; The Giggling Squid Jayne had been once or twice before and we decided to go with Sam and our other friend Liv to celebrate my new job. Yes- new job! Exciting huh?! I have a job as a PR Executive/Journalist. My dream job and I got it! This was a perfect place to come to celebrate.

It is on the main road in Stratford just off Sheep Street; its not a massive place but its very modern and bright inside- its incredibly clean and welcoming. You walk in and straight away a waitress is there to greet you and show you to the table, we ordered our drink and sat reading the menu.

Wow- so much choice and it all sounded delicious. It isn't cheap but Thai's never are. But we were celebrating so why not?!

We decided to have starters and mains, they have a choice of over 10 starters- makes it harder to decide what to eat! Eventually I made a decision and went for…

Yummy Duck Spring Rolls- an alternative treat from the usual spring roll. Shredded rich duck, shredded carrot and leek wrapped with Thai pastry.

Beautifully presented as Thai food usually is, I would love to know how they make those flowers out of fruit and vegetables! They really make a dish stand out. The starter was definitely a good size- not too big for a starter, I don't like being too full- I want to be able to enjoy my main. The taste was lovely, the duck was shredded perfectly-it tasted very similar to the duck pancakes you get at Chinese's but with a crispy pastry covering as supposed to the soft pancakes. Beautiful starter- so far, so good!

Main course; we decided to order a dish each and share them all between us with some noodles and rice. It was very difficult deciding which mains to get as they all sounded so good.

Prawn Ma Kham- fresh water prawn with naturally sweet & sour tamarind sauce. Garnished with fried shallots and cashew nuts
Steamed Sea Bass Fillet- this ginger and plum sauce goes very well with white fish, shitake mushrooms, pepper, onion and broccoli accompanied with a hot and sour Thai sea food sauce.
Beef & Oyster Sauce- thinly sliced tender medium rare beef stir fried with oyster sauce, pepper, broccoli with lovely Thai gravy

Chicken Pad Thai

As you can see, beautiful presentation. You also get a lot of food, they don't skimp on the portion sizes which is nice- I don't like all these tiny portions for expensive prices. I want to walk away feeling full and satisfied.

Firstly, the prawns- they had the shells on which is annoying, I prefer the shells off as its less effort to eat. However, the sauce made up for it. I love tamarind sauce, its become a new thing recently and seems to be popping up everywhere. It is exotic, it is both sweet and sour and is used in many marinades. It goes perfectly with prawns and anything with cashew nuts is a plus for me!

Secondly, the sea bass fillet- it was cooked perfectly, very flaky and tender. The sauce it was in was to die for! So sweet yet tangy, went perfectly with the sea bass and I loved every second of this dish, I couldn't fault it at all!

Thirdly, the beef & oyster sauce dish- pretty normal as you would expect to be honest. The beef was tender and not chewy at all which is good. Oyster sauce enhances the taste of any Thai food.
The noodles, Pad Thai is always one of my favourite sides and this one was no exception. To be honest, it was better than any noodles I have ever had! They were cooked to perfection. Amazing noodles. 10/10!

Well, another beautiful meal out and for just over £25 a head- not too expensive either for a Thai and worth every penny. Would go back again and again.
