Ask, Leamington 26/11/13

Another old favourite restaurant-ASK Italian. This time the one in Leamington as I was meeting Jayne after work, they do student discount too, even better! We went on a Tuesday night and the place was dead, it was so quiet- we were practically the only table in the place. Which didn't explain the very bad service-we sat down pretty fast but then it take the waitress a while to take our drinks order and a long time to take our food order-not impressed and especially as it was so quiet with 2 waiting staff on too, no excuse really and the service only got worse as the meal carried on.

We decided to have a starter to share as were all pretty hungry and we were getting 25% off so why not?!

Antipasto Classico Board: buffalo mozzarella, prosciutto, Milano and finocchiona salami, rocket and tomato salad with ricotta salad & rosemary & sea salt bread with olive tapenade.
£5.95/11.95
The two different prices depends on whether you have a small portion or a bigger sharing portion.
To be honest I don't think you get a lot for £11.95 anyway, I think there could be more on the board-especially between 2 people. However the presentation was very good and all the different colours looked good and blended together well. All the elements on the board were so tasty and they did compliment each other very well. The mozzarella went very well with the tomato and basil with oil and vinegar. The cold meats were delicious and so was the salad. The rosemary and sea salt bread was also so yummy and went very well with the olive tepenade, it's weird because I hate olives but when its in tepenade its delicious and makes such a good bread dip! Over all, an good starter and it was all very tasty and left me still hungry for my main.

I decided to try something I don't usually have for my main course and I've never really tried them before.

New Calzone Cacciatore: hunters pizza folded and stuffed with chicken breast, pancetta, mushrooms, fire-roasted peppers, olives, tomato sauce and mozzarella seasoned with rosemary and Grana Padano.
£10.95

This was a HUGEEEE portion, especially for the price. They say calzones are big but this one was huge and I liked the way it was presented on the black slate board, it made it look a lot nicer than being placed on a plate. The actually calzone was very well presented too. It tasted ok, to be honest I was expecting a bit more flavour as it has so many different elements in it and it was slightly bland -it definitely could've done with some more flavour, the sauce was also quite runny and I prefer very thick sauces. I felt all the flavours merged together and I couldn't quite distinguish between each different food. The pizza bread was yummy though and it made a nice change from a flat pizza, but its very thick and filling and I had to leave quite a lot of it. I wouldn't have this again or recommend it to people, disappointed especially as it was a new dish on their menu.

We were going to have desserts-however it took ages for her to bring us a dessert menu and even longer to take the order! We sat for around 15 minutes before my friend Laura actually got up and walked over to the waitress and told her what we wanted-we only ordered 2 desserts between the 3 of us: a honeycomb cheesecake and a chocolate cake-not exactly complicated and the place was dead, yet we sat for another 20 minutes, still no desserts. We got so fed up we walked over to the bar and told the waiter to leave the desserts as we were fed up with waiting and just wanted to pay, both him and the older lady working looked at us blankly as if it was our problem! No apology-nothing!! Not impressed, we paid and quickly left! Wouldn't go back again, I usually like ASK but this one in Leamington clearly needs sorting out.
