BANK-Brindley Place, Birmingham 5/06/2013

Yes, we went to BANK again to eat-it was a friends birthday and she had never eaten here before so as it was a special occasion we decided to go. The table was booked for 8.45 and the restaurant was fairly busy, as usual and the the actual place is so bright and the atmosphere is always very good, with a lot of members of staff and it is always busy, usually full of business men/women.
The menu was so good, so difficult to choose as it is sounds delicious! They gave us a specials menu too and only one dish had sold out, which is acceptable as it was quite late on in the day. Even though many of the starters sounded delicious, me and my friend had to have to starter that we had before as we both love it!

Asian Platter
This included:
Thai Fish Cakes
Spring Rolls
Chilli Squid
Tempura Prawns
&
Malayan Chicken Skewers

We decided to swap the chilli squid for extra tempura prawns as we both aren't too keen on squid, it comes with a sweet chilli sauce and a hoisin sauce. This is such a good size for a starter, it isn't cheap at £15.95 which definitely isn't cheap for a starter at all but you do get the value for money! The presentation is top class, it's laid out beautifully-almost too good to eat! It tastes AMAZING though! The thai fish cakes were quite spicy but they were only very tiny so therefore it wasn't an overpower spicy taste which is good as I don't like spicy food. The spring rolls were one of my favourites as they were duck and spring onion spring rolls that went really well with the hoisin sauce, similar to duck pancakes at the Chinese! The tempura prawns were my favourite of the whole plate though, they were massive, way bigger than normal prawns and as it was tempura batter it was a lot lighter and not as heavy as normal batter which I like. I could have had a platter just full of prawns! The Malayan chicken skewers were average in my opinion, they didn't have too much taste to them but they were okay and they did compliment the starter very well. Over all, this is a perfect starter! 10/10 and I would chose it for the third time if I go to BANK again!

For main, it took me ages to decide what to have as the menu has so much choice, all of which sounds so yummy! But I decided to go for a main that was on the specials board.

Pork Cutlet with Caramelised Apple, Cabbage & Honey Gremolata
As you can see, the presentation is perfect! They manage to make food look too good to eat! But each dish tastes as good as it looks, the pork was cooked perfectly, it was a really thick piece of cutlet and sometimes they can be chewy and tough but this one was cooked to perfection-tender! The caramelised apple went so well with the dish, as pork and apple compliment each other incredibly well. They were perfectly sweet on the inside but with a hard and crispy, caramelised top to them that gave them that extra crunch that packed sweetness with every bite. The cabbage was even so good and cabbage is one of those vegetables that is quite boring, but they made it taste delicious! The honey gremolata again was delicious, honey and pork go very well together and this sauce was very sweet, but not too sweet to make it taste like a desert sauce and it went so well, the whole dish complimented very well with each element working together and separately. My only criticism and it's a very small one is I would have liked a bit more sauce on my meal but that is just general personal taste as I love sauces on my food! But again 10/10 and I would recommend this to anyone, it should be on the normal menu and not just the specials!

I was SO full but the girls were all having deserts, so luckily me and the birthday girl agreed to share a desert.

Banoffee Eton Mess
This desert was SO good, it included chocolate brownies, banana, toffee and crunchy meringue. It was very unusual compared to normal Eton Mess as the meringue was in big bits as supposed to crushed up within the desert, but it tasted so good still and the chocolate brownies gave it a yummy twist! The ice cream in it melted very quickly so it did make a gooey mess after a while but it still tasted very good and at £6.50 it is a very reasonable price for a VERY good desert that was filling and yummy! 9/10 desert, I would of given this a 10 if the meringues were crushed-so a very minor criticism!

Again, another very good meal at BANK- it never fails to please but it isn't cheap. The bill came to £213 but £24 of that was a 12.5% service charge but it isn't a cheap everyday place to eat but it is so worth it for a special occasion!
