Luna Rosa, Knowle 22/01/15

This restaurant is somewhere I have wanted to try for ages and seeing as it’s only down the road from me, I thought I should finally bite the bullet and go.

It’s a Spanish/Italian restaurant, very traditional looking and the service was good, mostly.

We were shown to our table, drinks ordered and we were given a while to look at the menu. We decided to just go straight for main courses – we were given garlic bread as complimentary, therefore didn’t need starters.

Lasan, Birmingham 13/01/15

Lasan is an excellent fine dining Indian restaurant in Birmingham. They have won Gordan Ramsay's F Word and have been featured on the BBC Great British Menu. Lasan is a good edition to the Birmingham restaurant. The restaurant is very bright and spacious, nothing like your normal local Indian restaurant!

The service was very good, the waiters persuaded us to go the 8 Course Taster Menu - it was very different so we decided to try it! The tasting menu is £49.95 a head - not cheap but then again, tasting menus never are!

Roasted Cod with Parma Ham & Roasted Veg

This recipe is from the Hairy Bikers Healthy Eating books and it was delicious!

You need:

  • 1 red pepper
  • 1 yellow pepper
  • 2 medium courgettes
  • 1 medium red onion
  • 1 tbsp olive oii
  •  4 x cod fillets
  •  4 slices of parma ham
  • 10g breadcrumbs
  • 10g parmesan cheese
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped parsley
  • 2-3 tsp balsamic vinegar
  • sea salt
  • black pepper
Simply - preheat the oven to 220. Cut the peppers, courgettes and red onion into chunks and place in a large baking tray. Drizzle with oil and add plenty of salt and black pepper. Toss everything together and roast for 20 minutes.

Pat the fish dry, season with salt and pepper and wrap each fillet with parma ham.

Take the baking tray out of the oven and make space for the cod.

Mix the breadcrumbs with the cheese and parsley and scatter over the cod and the vegetables.

Place the baking tray in the oven for 12-15 minutes until the fish is cooked. Drizzle balsamic vinegar over and serve!

The Kings Head, Aston Cantlow 11/01/15

The Kings Head is Aston Cantlow is a traditional 15th Century Village Inn located in the heart of Warwickshire.

It is a beautiful looking pub both inside and outside and always has a very friendly atmosphere.

I decided to go on a Sunday lunchtime around 1pm for a lovely lunch with the girls! We were shown to our seats quickly and the service was very good, they took our drinks order and bought them to us efficiently. We looked over the Sunday Lunch menu; they don’t do a Main Menu on a Sunday. The Sunday Menu offers two courses for £17.50 or three courses for £21.50 – very reasonable and the menu changes every Sunday, keeping it original and fresh.

Skinny Cupcakes, 10/01/15

As January came, so did the healthy eating and I thought this was a perfectly good opportunity to make some healthy food - but we all get those sweet cravings and I found this recipe in the Hairy Bikers Diet book and thought they sounded delicious.

They are very cheap and easy to make too - most the ingredients you will probably have in your own home!

Aston Villa, 01/01/15

Hey everyone, I'm back! Sorry I've been gone so long - I have been crazy busy getting a new job and spent 10 days in Jamaica - but I'm now back and will be doing posts more regularly again.

This one is a bit of an unusual post, it was New Years Day and through work I got invited to the Aston Villa VS. Crystal Palace game and I got to sit in the conference room and got a 7 course lunch! 7 courses! Insane huh?! As it was New Year's Day - I did feel a little bit worse for wear but was excited to be sat in the conference room for the first time ever. The day consisted of a tour of the stadium and the changing rooms, a meet and greet with Beneteke and the food - the best bit!
