Ewe & Lamb, Bromsgrove 20/07/13

My two friends, Jayne & Sam got back from Vegas a couple of days before so we HAD to have a reunion lunch. Sam suggested we met at the Ewe & Lamb just outside Bromsgrove, I had never been before so I was definitely happy to go. The venue is pretty nice, just of a main road-we decided to sit outside as it was a gorgeous day.

The menu is very good, loads of choice. They offered a prix fixe menu but too many dishes on the main menu sounded too good. We had to go inside to order our food, slightly annoying but has to be expected when you are sat outside. We ordered our drinks and food, paid and then we waited and waited and waited.. the service wasn't brilliant. We were waiting quite a long time for our food, I even went in and asked the barman how long it would be and he didn't seem particularly fazed. However once I had asked the food came out instantly.

& it was worth the wait to be fair.. I went for:
Duo of Pork: Pork Fillet & Belly with swede mash, red onion red onion puree, wilted spinach, baby leeks, crackling & a sweet apple and sage jus.
£14
As you can see, the portion size was definitely reasonable and the presentation was very good, it looked attractive and I was hoping it was going to taste as good as it looked as I was starving by this point!

Both types of pork were cooked perfectly, the belly was succulent and tender with the crispy outside (you know how fussy I'am about my belly pork!) it even came with bits of pork crackling, which was a lovely touch and definitely bonus points from me! Even though the red onion puree didn't look too attractive on the plate it tasted incredibly good, it was the perfect blend of sweet but spicy and it complimented the pork so well, the wilted spinach and leeks went so well with the dish too and the leeks were cooked very well, not too soft at all. The swede mash was SO good too, swede mash is a favourite of mine and goes very well with pork, lastly the sweet apple and sage jus was a lovely last touch and it made the dish come together. There was so many different flavours in the dish but each one complimented each other so well and it was a very good dish, 8/10-only let down was the slow service.
