The Crabmill, Preston Bagot 31/01/2013

Me and a friend went to The Crabmill for dinner one night as we both always enjoy the food but have always been at lunch time. The decor and atmosphere inside is brilliant, really warm and inviting. It wasn't very busy inside but it was a cold winters Thursday evening. We were given a nice little table for two. The service is always brilliant, table service as well which is always a bonus. The menu is so good, so many choices and it is always so hard to know what to order! We decided to share a starter as we were pretty hungry but not starving.

We decided to go for some rustic bread to start; rustic bread, manchego cheese, slow roast garlic, tomatoes and extra virgin olive oil
£5.95.
For 5.95 it does sound quite expensive for some bread but you do get a lot on the board, definitely enough for a table of 4. The tomato dip was so yummy, definitely would like to know how that's made! The bread was very fresh and warm, just how bread should be. Over all a very good starter and very filling, we even had to leave most of it!
The main course took a while to decide on as all the mains sounded so good! We both decided on the same main course as it was too tempting!

Duck assiette: confit duck leg, seared Gressingham breast, duck croquette, watercress and spinach puree, blackberry and apple compote
17.95.
This was beautiful!! Like absolutely beautiful! The presentation was top class, couldn't fault it at all! Duck is one of my all time favourites and something I have a lot when I eat out as I never eat it at home. Confit of duck I prefer over duck breast as it's crispy. This duck was cooked to perfection and was so succulent. It literally did melt in the mouth. The croquette complimented the dish very well and one was definitely enough as it was quite filling. The watercress and spinach purée was also gorgeous! The blackberry and apple compote was unexpected as I was unsure what it would taste like but it was the perfect balance between bitter and sweet and the duck went so well with it as duck always goes well with sweet sauces. This dish was perfection, a definite 10/10. It wasn't cheap but was definitely worth every penny!!
We were very full but decided to squeeze in a desert! All the deserts sounded so good but I finally made a decision.

Lemon & Raspberry Posset with a Shortbread Biscuit.
£5.95
AMAZING! This desert was soooo good. Was really light, which was good as I was very full! The posset was a good size, not too big but not too small as a lot of expensive restaurants tend to do tiny deserts but this one was a average size which is good when your paying that much for a desert as that isn't cheap! The lemon and raspberry went so well together and the shortbread biscuit gave a different texture and flavour that worked incredibly well with the lemon and raspberry. A top class desert. 10/10 again and I would have this again and again!
The Crabmill is an amazing restaurant, top class service, excellent food and a spotless lovely atmosphere! I would go back time and time again.
