Burger & Lobster, London - 13/09/14

This blog is coming from London this time, for my two best friends; Jayne & Sam's birthday present in June - I took them to London for the day and paid for dinner at Burger & Lobster as its a place we have all wanted to try before. I have heard so much about this restaurant and have always been intrigued about the place as they only served burger or lobster, what an unusual concept! After spending the whole day shopping we were certainly ready for some yummy food, I rang them before and said we were on the way and they informed us we may have to wait for a table, this was only 4/5pm! The restaurant is crazy busy and so popular, I thought to myself "it must be good for it to be this busy so early!" The only take bookings for tables of 6 or more so be aware when you go to leave plenty of time - we got there early because we knew we were getting the train home.

Firstly - the decor was very nice and bright. You first walk in and there are two girls waiting for you, they greeted us with happy smiles and put our names down in a diary and informed us our table will be about 20 minutes, again - I couldn't quite believe there was a wait for a table at that time in the afternoon. The place was very hip, there was a bar down the left hand side full of people drinking wine, beer and cocktails. The impression it gave was a modern-young vibe, so far I was impressed!

We sat down on a near by bar table and looked at the cocktail menu - I love my cocktails and this menu had so many unusual choices. They certainly weren't cheap but, hey this is London - what do you expect?! We all ordered the same one 'Summer in the City' a blend of Absoult vodka, strawberries, pomegranate, elderflower and rose.
The perfect cocktail - fruity and sweet! I loved it. We all loved it so much we had a second one each but at £9 each cocktail - you would need a hell of a lot of money with you to have more than a couple!

Right - the food. There is no menu, so strange I know! But the waiter comes over to the table and explains how simple it is: you can order either a burger cooked to your preference or a whole lobster or a lobster roll either with garlic, lemon and herb sauce or without. Therefore, no need for a menu. As my friend Sam is allergic to shellfish she opted for the burger- they ask whether you would like cheese or not and how you would like the burger cooked. The only sides on offer are fries, salad, both or neither. All for £20 a head. Simples.

Jayne decided to go for the whole lobster and I went for the Lobster Roll, something I had never tried before.
It was simply, a cold lobster placed into a warm brioche roll served with fries, salad and the lemon herby butter. The presentation was pretty good, served on a big tray with all the different bits laid out nicely on it.

I didn't quite know what to expect, I have had lobster before but never like this! The brioche roll was amazing, it was toasted and therefore, crispy and as it warm it complimented the cold lobster very well. The lobster was cooked to perfection - not at all chewy and actually worked together as almost a burger. What more could I want? My two favourite foods combined; burgers and lobster! The fries were crispy yet soft in the middle and the sauce was so yummy.

I feel for £20 a head - it is very good value, for a burger £20 seems a lot but the concept just works. As were leaving the que to get in was outside, this is a good sign and I can see why its so popular. Simple but good honest food. You can't get lobster for £20 in many other places.

Loved this place, would go back again and again, I just wish there was one more local to me. Brilliant service, venue and food. Couldn't fault it all.
