This night-mum, dad and I went to a curry house where we live in Henley in Arden; The Curry Republic. We rarely go to this curry house but wen have heard so many good things and we decided to go this particular night.
The place is so nice, its quite a small restaurant with not many tables but its very modern with an open kitchen at the back.
The menu is very different too compared to normal curry houses, they have the usual curry favourites but they have different dishes that aren't on normal curry menus. They offer a lot of fish dishes too which my mum really enjoys. The service is very good too, the waiters are so friendly and make you feel very at home with their jokey attitude and helpful comments.
We decided to have starters, not realising how big the portion sizes were! They are very generous for the price! I went for a very traditional Indian starter.
Onion Bhajee
£2.95
Portion was more than big enough, 3 onion bhajees for £2.95 is incredibly good value! The presentation was very good, it was bright and colourful with a huge helping of side salad! The onion bhajees were very good, crispy and full of flavour. There isn't too much I can say about the starter to be honest as onion bhajees are as expected and taste pretty much the same in every curry house. But these were very tasty and the value for money is incredible.
For my main course I went a bit different, I don't really like heavy curry sauces so I decided to have another starter for my main but a sharing starter-as there isn't any curry sauce involved.
Mixed Platter for 2-jingha nach, chicken tikka, paneer tikka and seekh kebab
£8.95
Again, HUGE portion for a starter, I knew it was a sharing starter but for 2?! There is enough for 6 to share ha! Very good presentation again, it looked so pretty with the vibrant colours on the plate and the different colour sauces. The Jinga Nach is stir fried tiger prawns marinated with freshly chopped garlic, garnished with fresh coriander and spring onions. These were delicious, you can see them towards the bottom of the picture, the prawns were massive! They were incredibly tender and tasty-cooked perfectly and the marinade they came in was so flavoursome, the garlic was very strong but not over-powering. Chicken Tikka, has got a very distinct taste, one that most people know of. Its baked in a stone oven after being marinated with spices, ginger and garlic-this was very tasty but its very dry when its on its own so the sauces were very much needed especially the mint yoghurt, goes so well with chicken tikka. Paneer Tikka (top of the plate) was something I hadn't heard of before-its soft Indian cheese marinated and skewered in the tandoor with peppers, tomatoes and onions, its almost like a vegetarian version of chicken tikka, it tastes very similar but the texture is very unusual, the texture reminded me a lot of halloumi cheese as it kind of squeaked in your mouth. Again, it was quite dry so sauces were needed, I felt it went best with the mango chutney. Lastly, the seekh kebab-minced lamb flavoured with finely chopped green chillies, ginger and whole spices served with mint and coriander, again a very generous size, I got two rolls of seekh kebab, however I found it too spicy and couldn't really eat them, I could tell they had a very lovely full flavour but the spice was too overpowering.
Such a brilliant meal, so much food and such reasonable prices! Would 100% go back again.
